David began his boating life in 1980 when he purchased a Marina on Lake Maumelle in Little Rock Arkansas. Maumelle Harbour had 150 slips in the water plus dry storage for 60 more. He rented small fishing boats, a pontoon boat, day sailors, Hobie Cats, and Sunfish sailboats. The harbor also had a bait and tackle shop and a boat repair shop. In his spare time David learned to sail on the Hobies and the sunfish sailboats, Eventually, graduating to racing J-24s and larger boats.
David moved to Florida in 1985 because he wanted a larger sailing area. He raced J-24s on Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Eventually, the cruising bug hit and he bought a Catalina 25, then a Catalina 30 in which he cruised Florida’s West coast .Later, he purchased a CSY 33 with plans to cruise the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
After spending two years restoring the CSY and working as a yacht salesman for Bill Browning Yacht Sales David got his Broker’s license. He soon formed a partnership with Al Lima and opened Florida West Coast Yachts. He enjoys helping others find their dream boat then helping them through the process of getting the vessel outfitted to suit their needs. He has many contacts in boating related businesses throughout the Tampa Bay area and uses those relationships to help his clients prepare and improve their vessels in a timely and affordable manner.
